A national television audience will tune in to ESPN on Saturday, December 23, for the 19th Annual Dollar General Bowl. The Dollar General Bowl has built a reputation of fielding some of the most competitive and exciting games of the Bowl season. The game has featured incredible performances by future NFL standouts LaDanian Tomlinson, Byron Leftwich and Ben Roethlisberger among others. The 2016 Dollar General Bowl saw Troy defeat Ohio 28-23 in a fourth-quarter thriller that featured three big stops from the Trojan defense. Turnovers plagued both programs in the early going as both teams had 2 interceptions in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, the Trojan defense made all the plays late to secure the win. The Bobcats couldn’t overcome five turnovers that resulted in three Troy touchdowns.
Troy running back Jordan Chunn had three short touchdown runs, while the Trojan defense intercepted four passes and recovered a fumble.
The Trojans (10-3) finished off their first 10-win season since moving up to the FBS in 2001, thanks largely to the defense. Troy forced 18 turnovers in its last five games, and became the First Sun Belt Conference Team to crack the Top 25
